I just finished The golem and the jinni : a novel by Helene Wecker. I couldn't put it down, read 480+ pgs in 1 1/2 days. What I especially liked were the descriptions of the Jinn, his desert way of life, his dealings with the humans who intrigue him and the enchantment that traps him.. That was amazingly well done. There hasn't been enough attention paid the Other Folk beyond our veils of perception. I especially liked that the author didn't make one of the non human magicals- (the Jinn isn't the only one...) into the tired old trope of 'ultimate evil...bla bla bla ... when it seems if we were to go biblical the most reasonable fallen angels seems humanity. Ya, I recommend this one. I also liked The Invisible Life of Addie la Rue by Victoria Schwabb who warns us not to pray to the gods that answer after dark... (perhaps her best line)
