The December Book Club – Saint Death’s Daughter by C.S.E. Cooney

December 18, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EST

$7

So you know all those requests we’ve had to read C.S.E. Cooney’s Saint Death’s Daughter? Well we (and Claire!) heard you, and we’re seriously thrilled that Claire has offered to come to book club LIVE on December 18th at 7PM ET to talk about her gorgeous book! (Inside and out. LOOK at that cover!)

Saint’s Death Daughter just won the 2023 World Fantasy Award (holy smokes!!), and it’s a truly beautiful, wildly creative, joyful book. It’s also a glorious CHONK, so we recommend getting started on it early.

Here’s a description to whet your appetite:

“Nothing complicates life like Death.

Lanie Stones, the daughter of the Royal Assassin and Chief Executioner of Liriat, has never led a normal life. Born with a gift for necromancy and a literal allergy to violence, she was raised in isolation in the family’s crumbling mansion by her oldest friend, the ancient revenant Goody Graves.

When her parents are murdered, it falls on Lanie and her cheerfully psychotic sister Nita to settle their extensive debts or lose their ancestral home—and Goody with it. Appeals to Liriat’s ruler to protect them fall on indifferent ears… until she, too, is murdered, throwing the nation’s future into doubt.
Hunted by Liriat’s enemies, hounded by her family’s creditors and terrorised by the ghost of her great-grandfather, Lanie will need more than luck to get through the next few months—but when the goddess of Death is on your side, anything is possible.”

And here’s what people are saying about it:

“C. S. E. Cooney is one of the most moving, daring, and plainly beautiful voices to come out of recent fantasy. She’s a powerhouse.” — Catherynne M. Valente, NYT-bestselling author of the Fairyland novels

“A delicious stew of science fiction, horror, and fantasy, marked by unforgettable characters who plumb the depths of pathos and triumph.”Publishers Weekly, starred review

“Memorable prose propelled by extraordinary ideas… Twisted genius!”Locus Magazine

And so continues our run of books about (gentle) necromancy! Thank you again SO MUCH to Claire for joining us – if YOU would like to join us, make sure you’re on the $7+ tier on our Patreon for the month of December!
