August Book Club Pick is MOONLIGHT & VINES by Charles de Lint!

When we discussed what fantastical realms we’d want to actually visit in our Fairy-Tale Salon, at least 3 of us said Charles de Lint’s Newford because it feels so livable, real, and profoundly magical. Reading his Newford books always makes us feel like we’re slipping on a cozy cardigan and drinking tea…but, like, the cardigan was stolen from the fairies and the tea has healing properties.
Moonlight & Vines is our favorite of de Lint’s short story collections, and we can’t wait to talk about it with you! His writing blends “Lovecraft’s imagery, Dunsany’s poetry, Carroll’s surrealism, and Alice Hoffman’s small-town strangeness,” creating “a haunting mixture of human warmth and cold inevitability, of lessons learned and prices to be paid.”
