Fairy Tale Salon – Here is the info for our May Fairy-Tale Salon.
Prompt: Delightful Gossip
Quest: At this salon, we want to hear some GOOD NEWS. What’s the best thing you’ve heard so far this month? Did you read about a new study that’s going to make the world a lot better for a group of people or species of animals? Have you mastered a new skill? Did a court surprise you with an awesome ruling? Did your pet learn a delightful new trick? Have you planted a garden? Did you get a huge promotion at work but feel weird crowing about it? We want to hear all about it! Let’s lift each other up and remember that the world is still full of beauty and joy and wonder.
If you’d like to participate, just make sure that you’re on the Salonnières tier or higher on our Patreon for the month of May!
May 21 at 7:00 PM ET
Book Club – Our next book club pick is The Cat Who Saved Books, a delightful little book by Sosuke Natsukawa! We’ll be meeting on May 21st at 7PM ET.
Here’s the description:
“Bookish high school student Rintaro Natsuki is about to close the secondhand bookstore he inherited from his beloved bookworm grandfather. Then, a talking cat appears with an unusual request. The feline asks for—or rather, demands—the teenager’s help in saving books with him. The world is full of lonely books left unread and unloved, and the cat and Rintaro must liberate them from their neglectful owners.
Their mission sends this odd couple on an amazing journey, where they enter different mazes to set books free. Through their travels, the cat and Rintaro meet a man who leaves his books to perish on a bookshelf, an unwitting book torturer who cuts the pages of books into snippets to help people speed read, and a publishing drone who only wants to create bestsellers. Their adventures culminate in one final, unforgettable challenge—the last maze that awaits leads Rintaro down a realm only the bravest dare enter . . .
An enthralling tale of books, first love, fantasy, and an unusual friendship with a talking cat, The Cat Who Saved Books is a story for those for whom books are so much more than words on paper.”
Sounds perfect for a lot of us, right?
“Cats, books, young love, and adventure: catnip for a variety of readers!” – Kirkus Reviews
“Quirky and heartwarming in equal measure, The Cat Who Saved Books invites us to remember the joy of curling up with a favorite book, and savoring the tactile pleasure that comes with turning the pages and immersing ourselves in a good story.” — The Japan Times

Carterhaugh Goes to England…and So Can You!
We’re leading a trip called Enchanted England through The Great Courses, and it is everything we have ever dreamed of. COME WITH US!
Here’s what The Great Courses says: “Picture this: a whimsical Shakespeare performance in London, a literature lover’s dream day trip to the prestigious Oxford University, and a quest for the legendary King Arthur in the mystical lands of Cornwall. This adventure is guided by two brilliant leaders, Dr. Sara Cleto and Dr. Brittany Warman, who are The Great Courses experts in folklore in literature.”
Highlights of this trip include:
- Meet with the owner of Treadwell’s bookshop in Bloomsbury for a discussion centered on the shop’s famous specialization in the occult
- Take in London from Shakespeare’s point of view, learning about his connections to the city and his use of folklore (with an option to see a live performance!)
- Discover the inspiration for fantasy novels and films in Oxford
- Walk through key sites of Arthurian legend in Dartmoor and Cornwall, including Tintagel Castle
- Learn about mythical literature with editor and author Terri Windling
- Spend an evening at a countryside estate to indulge in the charm of period décor and pristine gardens
The trip will be 8 days and 7 nights, September 15-22, 2025. Come with us! Click here for more information.
