“You Want Us to Pay to Sit Silently on Zoom with You??”

July 30, 2024

Yep. Because it can change EVERYTHING.

Doors for the Carterhaugh Writers Society – the LAST round that we’ll be running in 2024 – close tomorrow, and we’d like to answer a question we’ve had a few times.

It goes something like “… you want us to sit on Zoom with you? Silently? What is the point of this?!”

And yes. We completely, dead seriously want you to come sit on Zoom with us and write with us. We swear, if you actually show up, you will be STUNNED by what you can do.

Also, “silent Zoom” kind of conceals what a community experience this is. We always say hi at the beginning, ask everyone to set an intention in the chat, and generally check in with people before we get started, and we sign off in the same way at the end, too.

Also, the last time we ran CWS, the chat during each writing session was an incredibly valuable resource. People answered each other’s questions, celebrated wins, and commiserated on rough writing days. We weren’t expecting that, and it was one of the most joyful surprises of CWS.

Not to mention all the other resources that are part of CWS! They include:

  • A brand new “Lunar Writing Journal” PDF for August 2024, specially designed to use the different moon phases to help you reflect on your project and writing over the course of the month!
  • Access to our brand new “Promptapolooza” writing workshop on August 11th!
  • A 5 episode Behind-the-Scenes Book Journey Private Podcast – we talk about where we looked for resources, how we found an agent, contracts, and so much more
  • Access to the book proposal that got us our deal
  • Access to our Spellcraft: Write Like a Witch Workbook!
  • An audio guide to setting an intention for our time together
  • The recording of our “Infernal Salon” Writing Workshop from Round 1!

The Beast Tier gets even more stuff, including live Witching Hours where we answer your questions, help you get unstuck, and provide real-time support for your writing.

But those Zooms? They are magic. They are literally where the magic happens.

We’ve been screaming for a while now about the power of “body doubling,” or working parallel with others.

People ask us all the time how we’re so ridiculously prolific – how we write and create as much as we do.

How did we manage to finish those dissertations, draft an entire book in a month, write and edit two tv series, publish more than 150 poems, stories, and articles, and put the partridge in the pear tree?

Body doubling.

If you’ve already listened to episode three of our podcast Write Like a Witch, you know the drill.

Whether it was on the floor of Sara’s apartment back in Columbus, in a coffee shop, or, as is almost always the case now that we live in different cities, it’s basically our superpower.

Seriously. This is how we get so much done.

It turns out that knowing someone else is writing is an amazing way to motivate yourself to actually write, too.

Body doubling has been studied a lot in the context of ADHD in particular. It’s been proven that working with other people, even if you’re doing totally separate things, reminds you to stay focused in a really powerful way.

This is why the backbone of the Carterhaugh Writers Society is body doubling. It’s truly transformative, and we want to make it available to you!

We’ll have silent Zoom meetings almost every weekday of the month so that we can all work together, be prolific AF, and get all the words on the page.

Not only did it work wonders for us in the last round of CWS, it was magic for our students, too.

Let us share our superpower with you. Whatever your goal is – finishing a book, writing a poem cycle, writing a short story, just writing more consistently – we know body doubling with us can help you get there.

The other goodies don’t hurt, either!

Click here to sign up for CWS: August 2024 before the clock strikes midnight ET tomorrow evening!
