A Free Gloomth Workshop, a Free Action List, a Trip, and The GD Kitchen Sink
November 20, 2024
Hello, gentle reader.
It’s been an interesting couple of weeks, has it not?
*cue the thunderous organs and shrieking violins*
Whether you’ve been screaming into the void, lying prone on the ground, spiritually bypassing, or something more constructive, we hope you’re doing ok.
And we come bearing news.
If you want the short version:
- You deserve something nice. So we’re running a cozy Gothic workshop. It’s new, FREE, and live, and yes, it will be recorded. You can sign up here.
- A lot of people are reeling right now, and a lot of people feel better when they take action. If that’s you, for the first time ever, we’re releasing a new PDF of the mega list of Carterhaugh action items that we created in Rapunzel’s Circle V: Folklore and Resistance to everyone.
- Want to go to England with us? No, seriously, want to come to England with us? You can learn more about the trip and sign up here.
Now here’s the long version.
(We know this is an absolutely ridiculous info dump. We’ve been sitting on news and hatching plans for ages, while simultaneously being absolutely slammed with deadlines. We got our book edits in on Friday 11/8 and filmed our new series on urban legends in studio in DC all last week. Words fail for this level of bonkosity, which is why we had to make up the word bonkosity to describe it.)
But we’re back, the external projects have eased up, and we felt like we were getting overwhelmed by the backlog of stuff we wanted to get to you. Thus, all the resources and all the updates, all at once.
We’re gonna slow down soon, WE SWEAR.
So, first, the workshop.
It’s called “Glamour and Gloomth: Why We Need the Gothic More than Ever.” As is our wont, it’s going to be whimsical, practical, and community-oriented. Also, extremely Gothic-y. We’ll be telling you more about it in the coming days, but you can read all about it and sign up here.
Basically, we wanted to do an event for everyone, for free. Like we said, it’s been rough. Let’s gather and make some magic. (Again, if you can’t make it live, there’s a replay.)
Second, the massive action item list.
Look, it’s important to strike a balance between cozy/ comforting and action. The workshop is largely for the comforting factor (although we know it has real purpose and power, too). But we’re also firm believers that taking action in the face of #%!@ is crucial, for mental wellbeing and for the greater good.
When we taught Rapunzel’s Circle V: Folklore and Resistance (our response to Roe v. Wade falling, which btw is still HOT GARBAGE), we created a massive list of possible action items that our students could take. Some of them were crowd sourced from the amazing speakers at our Folklore and Resistance roundtable (which you can still watch for free here), and the others were created by us (Sara and Brittany), inspired by readings, and suggested by our students.
We think there’s something for just about everyone on there. If you’re a “take action” person, you can find that list (in brand-new PDF form) here.
And, for real: if you do one, will you email us and tell us about it? We’d love to hear about it, no matter how small. In fact, small is amazing.
Third: England
Truly, we cannot believe this is happening. But the Great Courses is apparently digging our work (we can’t wait to see how the new Urban Legend series turns out and you can stream the whole Dracula series we made for them right here), and they invited us to co-create and lead a trip through their Great Courses Journeys program.
So we worked with them to create the itinerary, and we seriously can’t even believe that it’s real.
It’s called ENCHANTED ENGLAND and includes Bloomsbury, Shakespeare, Oxford, Treadwell’s, Cornwall, Dartmoor. EVEN TERRI WINDLING.
We cannot.
It’s going to be 8 days and 7 nights, next September 15th-22th, 2025.
And we want you to come with us. Click here to get all the details!
Have questions? Shoot us an email, and we’ll get back to you!
OKAY. That’s our ridiculous info dump.
If you read this far, please know how much we love you.
P.S. TLDR: We’re doing a free Gothic workshop, giving you a free action item list, and going to England. Sign up, make some mischief, and get your frolic on!
I WILL NOT LOOK LIKE A GERBIL!!! I love our group sharing our own Gothic Power Tools…. and YES!! I’ve my eyeliner on!! I don’t look like a gerbil, maybe a raccoon???
