Folklore of the Ocean – FLASH SALE! [+ Another Playlist!]
August 27, 2024
Feeling the summer doldrums hard?
Or, you know, unbridled panic at the beginning of the school year?
We have the antidote, and it’s aquatic.
Enrollment for The Wine-Dark Sea: Folklore of the Ocean is OPEN for enrollment, and it’s on SUPER SALE… but only for five days!
This is the self-study version of one of our most popular courses ever.
In other words:
1) Everything is already filmed and on-demand. You can binge the entire thing in a week or slowly work through it all year.
2) You want mermaids? Selkies? Sea monsters? Ghosties? (If you don’t, we don’t know what joy Carterhaugh is bringing you because that’s kind of our whole thing.) THIS IS YOUR TIME.
Enrollment for this self-study version of The Wine Dark Sea is 𓇼 $97 𓇼 until Friday night (August 30th at midnight ET). Then it’s going back in the vault.
We’ve taken semester-long college courses that pack less info and punch than this 5-week course. You’ll explore sea legends, songs, and poetry from around the world. Plus a deep-dive into The Odyssey, a text floating at the intersection of folklore and literature, translated by Emily Wilson.
When we speak of selkies, we weigh the force of passion against the rights of sovereignty and self-determination. The ghost ships that drift through stories and songs shed light on our values and fears. And horrors like Scylla and Charybdis ask us to wonder how monsters are made… as do Odysseus’s actions at the end of his journey.
Our most beloved tales of the ocean ask us to consider the nature of love, home, loss, and who we want to be.
Join us on an odyssey into the wine-dark sea of oceanic folklore and the stories it has washed ashore.
You can read more about the course and sign up right here, but we can tell you it’s gonna be a tidal wave of legendary, magical, musical lore.
Also, did we mention that we love selkies? We REALLY love selkies. (So does Terri Windling, who has a gorgeous guest lecture in this course!!!)
We also made an awesome playlist for this one – click here to listen, or use our player below!
Yay!
So yes, come geek out with us and celebrate all things oceanic before the summer’s over!
