Special LIVE Event at WitchLab in Columbus!
February 4, 2019
Hello all!
As you might have noted if you follow us on social media, we have a very special LIVE class coming up! We have teamed up with an amazing new boutique and workshop/event space in Columbus called WitchLab to do a new and improved 2-hour+ lecture and workshop on witches in the Grimms’ fairy tales and we are SO excited about it!
WitchLab is… frankly, amazing. Their mission statement is “blurring the lines between magic, science, and art” and, well, we couldn’t be more behind that if we tried! We had the opportunity to visit the space before it officially opened, and it is just as you might imagine a witch’s laboratory to be! It is filled with magic – you walk in and it’s basically like stepping into another world! They have oddities and plants, ouiji boards and potions, mystic jewelry, incense, tarot cards, vintage occult items, and pretty anything else you might need to properly cavort under the moon and stars with your familiar in tow!
You can check out their website at https://www.witchlab.com/ to look at their class offerings (including ours!) and some other products and info! They’re also on Facebook and Columbus Underground did a great write up about them with some cool pictures that are much better than the dinky ones we snapped on our visit :P. Oh! And they have an amazing library space in the back with clouds hanging above it! It’s just completely enchanting.
The class will start with an exploration of what it means to be a witch and talk generally about some of the many different kinds of witches that appear in the Grimms’ tales. Then we will take a close look at five stories from the Grimms’ collection – “Rapunzel,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “The Three Spinners,” “Frau Trude,” and “All Fur.” Each of these stories features a very different type of witch! Copies of the stories will be shared in advance (and are also easily available online), but brief overviews will be given during the class as well.
The day with conclude with an informal, optional exercise in writing poetry, spells, and charms from the perspectives of the diverse witch-aspects discussed in class (and you will get a small souvenir courtesy of the lovely WitchLab ladies to take home as well!)
For more information and to sign up, please see the Facebook event page or sign up directly on their website! We are also happy to answer questions anytime. We hope to have some of you join us!
