*Insert Swearing Here*

June 28, 2022

We weren’t going to have an email/ blog post this week. We’re in NYC for work (come see us at 6PM tonight for the launch of Shveta Thakrar’s gorgeous new book The Dream Runners!)

But we are PISSED. And we didn’t want to let a week go by without acknowledging what happened.

When the draft of the Supreme Court’s absolutely disgusting and shameful decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked a few weeks ago, we had this to say, and we’ll have more in the coming weeks.

For now, we have three things to say:

  1. Please take time to be extra kind to yourself right now, whatever that means. Feel your feelings instead of trying to smash them all down. Scream into pillows. Scream on the street (we’ve done some of that this week.) Cry. Watch something really funny with friends or whatever will make you laugh. Spend time with people who support you and make you happy. Above all, please know that you’re not alone and that together we will fight.
  2. Don’t give up. Instead, do something, however small. Go to a protest. Write a postcard to your representatives. Tell your own stories. Be really proactive about your own health. Make art. Make a donation (we recommend Feminist Women’s Health Center, SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, ARC Southeast, or the ACLU*). Use your voice. Take up space.
  3. Thanks to Carterhaugh – to this community – we are making a donation of $2498 to the ACLU today. To every single one of you who bought a course from our vault last week – thank you. You are making a difference, and we’re so grateful to you.

More soon <3

*The Feminist Women’s Health Center has been operating in Atlanta and providing care for over 45 years. It’s an independent clinic on the front lines of the battle to protect abortion access.

The SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective is a diverse collective of women of color dedicated to growing and supporting the reproductive justice movement and to uplifting the voices and building the capacity to win access to abortion and all other reproductive rights.

ARC Southeast is a fund that helps those in need overcome barriers and ensure they have the resources to access reproductive healthcare, including abortion access, in six states across the Southeast.

The American Civil Liberties Union (the ACLU) fights government abuse and defends individual freedoms including speech and religion, a woman’s right to choose, the right to due process, citizens’ rights to privacy, and much more.
