The 2023 Carterhaugh School Summer Reading Challenge!

May 16, 2023

Whether you’re a beach person (like Sara) or emphatically NOT (like Brittany), a vital truth remains:

Summer approacheth.

At the suggestion of one of our awesome students (thanks, Hannah!), we’re going to try something new this year:

A Carterhaugh School Summer Reading Challenge!

Fancy reading a fairy-tale retelling or urban fantasy set somewhere that you’ve lived? What about one in a place that you’ve always wanted to visit but have never been? Maybe a collection of folktales from Japan or Ukraine? A book that’s been in your TBR pile for more than 5 years?

All are welcome, and it’s completely free – though we’ll be posting behind-the-scenes of our own reads and extra resources for our patrons, which you’ll be able to find here if you join our Patreon!

At the beginning of June, we’ll post the challenge and officially ask you to join us, but before we do, we’d love to hear from you:

Do you have any suggestions for challenge categories? What concepts would you really love to see?

We’re not planning to assign specific authors or texts – we want to keep it pretty open so that there are many ways to fulfill each challenge. This way, you can design your own reading experience, but still be part of the group experience too!

You’ll learn the challenge’s FINAL FORM at the beginning of June. More soon!

I’m about to start re-reading a favorite trilogy in preparation for the release of the first follow-up to it this fall, but I’d love to participate in your challenge also! What about a category for “a ‘classic’ you’ve never read?” Or one for “a book by one of the authors in your two lesser-known authors lists on the blog?”
