Winter Stories, Songs, and More with Father Christmas (& Us!)
December 14, 2021
So you may have heard about this tiny, little, ohbythewaykinda AMAZING thing we’re doing…
That’s right, a WINTER SOLSTICE EXTRAVAGANZA!
SO many people asked for a winter event last year, right after we did our big Halloween Extravaganza, but we just couldn’t get it all together in time to really make it work like we would want to. We were kind of exhausted! So, for this year, we decided to do a winter holiday themed event instead of a big Halloween thing – just to switch things up a bit!
This event is admittedly a bit more low key than the HUGE Halloween festivities last year, but we think it’s just the right amount of magic and coziness for the busy holiday season. It’s happening December 21st (of course) from 7PM ET to about 10PM ET or so (but everything will be recorded if you can’t make it live!) We’re going to do TWO of our signature folklore lectures – one on winter holiday foodways (which we can’t believe we’ve never really talked about before, it’s going to be so weird and fun!) and another one on wintery fairy tales (which will feature ALL NEW stories that we’ve never shared before!)
But the big draw, we have to admit, is Father Christmas himself.
Yes, THE Father Christmas!
Or, well, at least his earthly incarnation, the incomparable Dr. Stephen Winick, one of our mentors and dearest friends in the folklore world. He’s prepared an amazing presentation that includes singing traditional songs (if you remember him from our Halloween event last year, you know this is something NOT to be missed!), discussions of winter traditions, and folklore history, all while we all drink his incredible cocktails (or alcohol-free drinks) inspired by songs and/or the season. Can’t wait to grab those recipes? They’re all already up on his website, just click here!
Here’s an example of one we’re especially dying to try:
Cherry Tree Carol
1 oz each of:
Bonded Rye Whiskey
Cherry Heering
Ruby Port
Blood Orange Juice
3 dashes spiced bitters: clove, cardamom, or allspice will all work.
Shake well with ice and serve in a chilled coupe.
Garnish with a cherry or two, or an orange twist…or both!
Yum!
So, if you haven’t done so already, click here to grab your tickets and join us for a solstice of folklore, food, enchantment, and wonder – it will be the perfect way to really embrace the folklore-y holiday spirit!
